14.8.2025 | At its session on Thursday 14 August, the Government appointed Timo Olkkonen as the new Deputy Director General of the Department for Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.

9.3.2026 | Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio and a delegation of ten Finnish companies will visit Mexico on 9–13 March. The Team Finland trade mission pursues to strengthen trade relations between Finland and Mexico and promote cooperation between the two countries.

13.6.2025 | The Government approved Finland’s participation in the third capital increase of IDB Invest, an investment company of the Inter-American Development Bank Group. Through the capital increase, IDB Invest will boost its lending and investments in the private sector and improve its risk-taking capacity and ability to leverage private capital to achieve broader development goals.

11.11.2025 | Finnish diplomat Rasmus Salminen participated in a further training programme for diplomats, organised by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The year-long training opened doors to global connections and provided fresh insights into international relations.

9.11.2025 | The summit between the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, CELAC (Comunidad de Estados Latinoamericanos y Caribeños) is taking place in Santa Marta, Columbia, on 9–10 November. Colombia is currently holding the presidency of CELAC. 

25.11.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo represented Finland at the seventh EU-African Union (AU) Summit in Luanda, Angola on 24 and 25 November. The summit was attended by heads of state or government from both continents and by President of the European Council António Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen from the European side.

30.11.2023 | James Scriven, Chief Executive Officer of IDB Invest, which is a member of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, visited Finland on 28–29 November. Scriven met with Finnish businesses, which had an opportunity to showcase their expertise. IDB Invest aims to leverage private funding to Latin America and the Caribbean. 

26.8.2025 | The Finnish development financier Finnfund has set up a new investment fund to support the development of digital services and infrastructure in developing countries. The aim is to promote gender equality and financial inclusiveness in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

29.7.2025 | Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will meet Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay Rubén Ramírez Lezcano on 30 July during his visit to Finland as a member of the delegation of President Santiago Peña.

23.9.2025 | Speech by Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio at the Opening Session of the Second Global School Meals Coalition Summit on 18 September 2025, in Fortaleza Brasil.

28.7.2025 | An international conference at foreign minister level will be organised in New York on 28–30 July that aims to promote the implementation of a two-state solution in the conflict between Israel and Palestine. Permanent State Secretary Jukka Salovaara will represent Finland at the conference.

22.6.2023 | EU foreign ministers will convene in Luxembourg on 26 June. Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will represent Finland at the meeting.

21.12.2022 | IDB Invest, a member of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, and Finland announces the establishment of the Finland-Latin America and the Caribbean Blended Finance Climate Fund.

27.6.2025 | At the presidential session on 27 June, the President of the Republic appointed Juha Mustonen to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Doha and Sirpa Oksanen to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Zagreb.

18.7.2023 | The leaders of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) met at a two-day summit in Brussels on 17 and 18 July. The aim of the third EU-CELAC Summit was to enhance cooperation and demonstrate a shared commitment to maintaining the rules-based international order.

5.3.2025 | The EU home affairs ministers will gather in Brussels on 5 March for a meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council. The topics on the agenda include the state of the critical submarine infrastructure, the management of migration and the fight against drug trafficking and organised crime. Finland will be represented by Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen.

13.7.2023 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will attend a summit bringing together the leaders of the EU Member States and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). The summit will take place in Brussels on 17 and 18 July.

1.2.2024 | The implementation of the reform will start with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ management group, regional departments, EU coordination and strategy unit. The goal is a more efficient Foreign Service.

27.11.2023 | Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will attend a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in its trade configuration in Brussels on 27 November 2023. The trade ministers will discuss the preparations for the Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization, the EU’s trade agreement with Chile and the EU–US trade relations. The ministers will also discuss the EU’s ongoing bilateral trade negotiations.
