  4. 17.12.2024 | Consultation has begun on the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report concerning the lifetime extension and increased thermal power of the Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 nuclear power plant units of Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO). Comments on the report will be accepted at the Lausuntopalvelu.fi service from 17 December 2024 to 14 February 2025. In addition, a hearing event open to the public will be held in Eurajoki on 6 February 2025

  5. 5.12.2024 | On 5 December 2024, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment received an environmental impact assessment (EIA) report from Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO). The report assesses the environmental effects of a potential extension to the service life of Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 nuclear power plant units as well as an increase to their thermal power.

  6. 5.1.2024 | On 5 January 2024, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment received from Teollisuuden Voima Oyj an environmental impact assessment (EIA) programme referred to in the Act on the Environmental Impact Assessment Procedure. The programme concerns extending the service life of Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 nuclear power plant units located in the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant area in Eurajoki as well as increasing their thermal output.

  7. 16.2.2023 | On 16 February 2023, the Government granted an operating licence to Fortum Power and Heat Oy (Fortum) for nuclear power plants units Loviisa 1 (LO1) and Loviisa 2 (LO2), in accordance with the Nuclear Energy Act. The new operating licence allows energy production at the nuclear power plant units until the end of 2050. The current operating licences for Loviisa expire on 31 December 2027 (LO1) and 31 December 2030 (LO2).

  9. 27.11.2020 | On 13 August 2020, Fortum submitted an environmental impact assessment (EIA) programme to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. It started a procedure, which will assess the environmental impact of continuing, or alternatively closing, the operation of the Loviisa nuclear power plant as well as the impact of the options for the final disposal facility of low and intermediate-level waste.

  15. 29.12.2022 | On 29 December 2022, the Government granted research permits for offshore wind projects in four open sea areas in Finland’s exclusive economic zone. The permits were granted to Ilmatar Energy Oy for the research area “Voima” in the open sea area off the coast of Jakobstad and the research area “Norrskär” off the coast of Kaskinen.   16. 14.6.2024 | On 14 June 2024, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment granted to nine different projects a total of EUR 46.4 million in RRF energy investment aid under the Sustainable Growth Programme for Finland.   19. 12.8.2025 | The Siikajoki Vapaaksi environmental association is set to restore the Pöyrynkoski rapids, enabling the free ascent of migratory fish in the river. The project was formally launched on Tuesday 12 August at Revonlahti School in Siikajoki, North Ostrobothnia. Formally conveying favourable greetings to the event, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah noted that the project was a superb example of a remediation exercise promoted by local parties and prepared in broad partnership.
