25.7.2025 | The Finnish OSCE Chairpersonship will organise a conference on 31 July 2025 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act. The conference will pay tribute to the legacy of the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (CSCE) in Helsinki in 1975 and highlight the role of civil society in advancing OSCE’s principles and commitments. Helsinki+50 Fund will be launched as part of the Conference to support the OSCE’s operational capacity.

27.1.2025 | The EU General Affairs Council (GAC) will meet on Tuesday 28 January in Brussels. In the meeting, the GAC will continue its annual rule of law dialogue with country-specific discussions on the rule of law situation in Hungary, Portugal, Romania and Slovenia. The Council will also discuss the priorities for Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU. Finland’s Permanent Representative to the European Union, Jori Arvonen, will represent Finland at the meeting.

7.2.2025 | Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will attend the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Summit in Paris on Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 February at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. President Macron has also invited EU leaders to a Summit of Heads of State and Government, and leaders from nearly 20 EU Member States are expected to attend alongside Finland.

31.1.2025 | Finland and the majority of the EU Member States have sent a joint letter calling on the European Investment Bank (EIB) to increase its financing for the European defence industry. The letter, drawn up at the initiative Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, is endorsed by France and Germany as well.

On the agenda for both meetings were the priorities of Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, work on the EU’s future, and promoting a circular economy.

4.5.2023 | Ministers of sport from 36 countries have issued a fourth collective statement on the exclusion of Russia and Belarus from international sports.

21.2.2023 | In their statement published on 20 February, the ministers of sport from 34 countries state that the International Olympic Committee should not change its decision of 28 February 2022 concerning the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international sports. According to the ministers, the situation in Ukraine has deteriorated over the past year.

1.11.2022 | The EU Ministers responsible for Sports, submitted a letter to the President of the International Olympic Committee Mr Thomas Bach, have expressed their concern about the deteriorating situation in Ukraine caused by the ongoing Russian war of aggression supported by Belarus. In the letter, the Ministers reiterated the requirement to exclude Russia and Belarus from all international sports activities.
