20.4.2026 | EU foreign affairs ministers will convene for a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg on 21 April. Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will represent Finland at the meeting.

The event drew experts, decision-makers and others interested in the topic to discuss the development and future direction of comprehensive crisis management. In 2026, Finland marks 70 years of engagement in international crisis management.

19.11.2025 | The EU foreign ministers will convene for a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels on 20 November. Finland’s Permanent Representative to the European Union, Jori Arvonen, will represent Finland at the meeting.

11.11.2025 | Finland will grant a total of EUR 13.5 million in humanitarian assistance at the end of the year. The total funding for humanitarian assistance in 2025 is over EUR 111 million. The funds granted at the end of year will go to humanitarian crises in Ukraine, Nigeria, Sudan, Gaza, Yemen and Afghanistan.

13.11.2025 | In its meeting on 13 November, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs outlined Finland’s positions on the European Commission’s proposal for the multiannual financial framework, which will serve as the Union’s long-term budget for 2028–2034. The ministerial committee on also outlined Finland’s positions three council meetings to be held next week.

18.8.2025 | Finland’s decisions on humanitarian assistance this year have prioritised support to Ukraine, major refugee crises in Africa and the humanitarian situation in the Middle East. The number of people in need of assistance continues to grow. By the end of July, Finland had provided a total of approximately EUR 97.5 million in vital humanitarian assistance in 2025, nearly EUR 18 million of it to Ukraine.

13.4.2022 | At the presidential session on Wednesday 13 April, the President of the Republic decided to appoint three new Ambassadors and one Non-resident Ambassador.

10.2.2025 | During its membership of the UN Human Rights Council between 2022 and 2024, Finland defended universal human rights and the multilateral rules-based system. Finland’s key priorities were to ensure accountability and gender equality and to promote and defend the rights of women and girls, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities and LGBTI persons.

16.10.2024 | In its meeting on Wednesday 16 October, the Ministerial Committee on EU Affairs outlined Finland’s positions for the October European Council on 17–18 October and the first-ever EU-Gulf Cooperation Council summit in Brussels on 16 October.

11.8.2023 | At the presidential session on Friday 11 August, the President of the Republic appointed a new Ambassador to Ireland and new non-resident Ambassadors to Djibouti, South Sudan, Malta and San Marino. In addition, the Government appointed a new Under-Secretary of State for International Trade.

19.1.2024 | In 2023, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the missions abroad provided consular services to approximately 244,000 customers. The demand for advisory services remained high. Over the course of the year, the Ministry’s 24/7 service was contacted around 8,000 times in total.
