8.5.2026 | At the presidential session on Friday 8 May, the President of the Republic appointed Erik Lundberg to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Addis Ababa and Pasi Hellman to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Tokyo as of 1 September 2026 and Maria Ågren to serve as Roving Ambassador for Turkmenistan as of 1 June 2026.

8.5.2026 | Vid föredragningen fredagen den 8 maj förordnade republikens president Erik Lundberg till chef för Finlands ambassad i Addis Abeba och Pasi Hellman till chef för ambassaden i Tokyo från och med den 1 september 2026 samt Maria Ågren till ambulerande ambassadör för Turkmenistan från och med den 1 juni 2026.

13.6.2025 | The Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs has appointed Elna Nykänen Andersson to serve as Counsellor for Public Diplomacy and Communications at Finland’s Embassy in Tokyo. The three-year term will start on 1 September 2025. The Counsellor for Public Diplomacy and Communications is in charge of the Embassy’s country brand work, external communications and media relations, and leads the Embassy’s country brand team.

10.12.2024 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Prime Minister of Japan Shigeru Ishiba met in Tokyo on Tuesday 10 December. Their talks focused on bilateral political, trade and economic relations between the countries. They also discussed a variety of topical international issues. The prime ministers addressed the situation in Ukraine and the need for support, and shared their serious concerns about increased military cooperation between Russia and North Korea.

8.10.2025 | Minister of Education and Minister for Nordic Cooperation Anders Adlercreutz will visit Japan on 9–12 October. During his visit, he will take part in events at the Osaka World Expo.

6.6.2025 | Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will visit Japan on 9–12 June 2025 as a member of the official delegation of the President of the Republic, Alexander Stubb. In Japan, Minister Tavio will visit Tokyo and Osaka.

18.3.2025 | The Nordic ministers responsible for sports have signed a joint letter to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The letter states that the Nordic countries will continue to support the organisation financially but are concerned about recent disputes over doping control.

5.12.2024 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will visit Japan on 9–12 December. The purpose of the visit is to deepen cooperation between Finland and Japan, to discuss the current foreign and security policy situation and to strengthen contacts between Finnish and Japanese businesses. A business delegation put together by Business Finland will accompany the Prime Minister on the visit.

12.12.2024 | On Thursday 12 December, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo gave a talk about Finland’s climate action at the University of Kyoto. After the talk, students had the opportunity to ask the Prime Minister questions about the topic. Orpo also paid a visit to the Osaka 2025 Expo grounds, where a joint Nordic pavilion is currently being built. Orpo is the first head of state or government to visit the World Expo grounds.

11.5.2022 | Prime Minister Sanna Marin gave a keynote speech at a high-level seminar exploring the impacts of digitalisation on society in Tokyo on 11 May 2022. Prime Minister’s speech to be checked against delivery.

13.6.2025 | Utrikesministeriet har utnämnt Elna Nykänen Andersson till kommunikations- och Finlandsbildsattaché vid Finlands ambassad i Tokyo. Befattningen är treårig och Nykänen Andersson börjar arbeta den 1 september 2025. Kommunikations- och Finlandsbildsattachén ansvarar för ambassadens främjande av Finlandsbilden och för den externa kommunikationen och medierelationerna samt leder ambassadens Finlandsbildsteam.

12.4.2024 | At the presidential session on 12 April, the President of the Republic appointed eight new Ambassadors and three new non-resident Ambassadors.

10.12.2024 | Statsminister Petteri Orpo träffade Japans premiärminister Shigeru Ishiba i Tokyo tisdagen den 10 december. Orpo och Ishiba diskuterade sina länders bilaterala politiska och handelsekonomiska relationer. På agendan stod också aktuella internationella frågor. Statsminister Orpo och premiärminister Ishiba diskuterade läget i Ukraina och landets behov av stöd, och uttryckte sin allvarliga oro över det ökade militära samarbetet mellan Ryssland och Nordkorea.

26.8.2022 | At the presidential session on Friday 26 August, the President of the Republic appointed a new Ambassador to Ukraine and four new non-resident Ambassadors.

9.9.2022 | At the presidential session on Friday 9 September, the President of the Republic appointed a new Ambassador to Pakistan and three new non-resident Ambassadors and decided on three authorisations to represent Finland.

11.8.2022 | The government plenary session appointed several persons to new positions at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Helsinki.

10.2.2022 | On Thursday, 10 February, the Government appointed a new Director General of the Department for the Americas and Asia.

22.6.2022 | On Wednesday 22 June, the Government appointed a new Deputy Director General. At the presidential session on Wednesday 22 June, the President of the Republic decided to appoint two new Ambassadors.
