9.7.2026 | At the presidential session on Thursday 9 July, the President of the Republic appointed Marja Rosvall to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Lusaka, and Petra Theman to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Consulate General in Mumbai, starting on 1 September 2026.

6.7.2026 | The UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will take place in New York between 7 and 15 July. The purpose of the annual meeting is to review the progress made in achieving the objectives of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Finland’s delegation will be led by Mika Nykänen, State Secretary to Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala.

9.12.2025 | A delegation of Finnish Members of Parliament from the Development Policy Committee visited Zambia on 22–28 November to discuss with the country’s political leadership the development of cooperation between Finland and Zambia and to learn about topical development issues in the country.

2.2.2026 | Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto will visit the United Arab Emirates, Zambia and South Africa from 2 to 10 February 2026. The purpose of the visit is to promote exports of Finnish companies and to strengthen Finland’s role in the mineral value chains.

10.3.2026 | The 2026 call for applications for the Joint Innovation Facility (JIF) funding is now open. JIF is designed to strengthen digital, climate-positive innovation activity. The funding will support the expansion of market-ready, digitally enabled innovations through cross-border partnerships.

19.1.2023 | Zambia’s current administration is renewing the country’s political operating culture and trying to solve the economic problems inherited from the previous administration. The focus of the cooperation between Finland and Zambia has shifted towards stronger trade relations, according to Finland’s Ambassador to Zambia Saana Halinen.

28.2.2025 | At the presidential session on 28 February, the President of the Republic appointed a non-resident Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

21.1.2025 | Veera Virmasalo, (MA), has been appointed to the post of Senior Specialist in Higher Education and Science Policy at the Embassy of Finland in Pretoria from 14 January 2025 to 31 July 2027. Team Finland Knowledge experts are responsible for monitoring higher education and science policy, promoting cooperation opportunities and making Finnish higher education institutions better known in their designated country.

4.5.2021 | Early this year, Twinning activities were extended to seven new countries under the three-year pilot of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA). The results of the calls for proposals for the first two pilot projects have already been published, and Finland is very proud to have been awarded both projects. Finland will now help Zambia enhance anti-corruption measures and audits of central government finances.

10.11.2023 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs will organise an induction course into development policy and development cooperation for journalists in January–February 2024, with a special focus on the links between trade and development. A field visit to Zambia is included in the course. The call for applications is open from 10 to 24 November 2023.

27.10.2023 | In 2024–2026, the higher education cooperation of Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs will prioritise teacher education, climate change and the circular economy, and food security. The Foreign Ministry grants just over EUR 6 million to the seven projects approved for the partnership programme.

4.10.2023 | The Global Dry Toilet Association of Finland has been implementing the Zambia Dry Sanitation Country Programme with a discretionary government grant awarded by Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs for development cooperation by civil society organisations.

4.12.2023 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs will organise an induction course into global development issues for journalists in January–February 2024. Altogether 38 journalists applied for and 10 were selected to the Development Academy now organised for the twelfth time.
