  4. 8.5.2026 | The Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU will host an informal meeting of ministers for European affairs in Lefkosia on 10–11 May. Discussions at the meeting will focus on the EU’s next multiannual financial framework and EU enlargement.   6. 13.2.2025 | The Finnish Ministry of the Interior has sent out for comments a government proposal to extend the validity of the Act on Temporary Measures to Combat Instrumentalised Migration ('Border Security Act') until 31 December 2026.   9. 5.3.2026 | Finland has provided Ukraine with an extensive package of equipment for combating oil spills. The package included donations compiled by the Finnish Border Guard and rescue departments, and materials procured by the Ministry of the Interior.   11. 28.1.2026 | On 10 December 2024, the Finnish Ministry of Defence set up a project to examine the need to amend the Act on the Expropriation of Immovable Property and Special Rights to Ensure National Security and related legislation.   19. 12.12.2024 | The EU home affairs ministers will gather in Brussels on 12 December for a meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council.   20. 18.4.2024 | On 18 April, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal for introducing a new border procedure. The Aliens Act will be amended in line with the EU Asylum Procedures Directive to introduce the new border procedure in Finland. The purpose of the border procedure is to enhance the examination of unfounded applications and the return of applicants whose application has been rejected. In addition, this will prevent secondary movements of asylum seekers to other EU countries.
