The Research and Innovation Council published a report on the strategic choices on 9 January.

9.11.2023 | On 9 November 2023, the Government appointed the new Finnish Climate Change Panel for the term 2024–2027. The panel will be chaired by Jyri Seppälä from the Finnish Environment Institute. The panel gives statements and produces scientific knowledge to support decision-making.

7.6.2022 | Finland will publish its National Implementation Plan for the UN Decade of Ocean Research on Wednesday 8 June 2022. The main objective is to support the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goal 14, which is to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

4.7.2025 | The European Commission plans to support the establishment of AI gigafactories across EU Member States. From Finland, technology leader Nokia, along with a business consortium it has assembled, has stepped forward with an expression of interest to bring an AI gigafactory to the country and has taken part in the Commission’s call. The Finnish Government backs the expression of interest submitted by the business consortium led by Nokia.

In the report published today, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change IPCC points out that urgent action is needed to ensure a liveable future for all. There is very little time for corrective actions but solutions are available.

28.11.2025 | With the aim of strengthening Finland’s economic growth, speeding up investments and improving employment, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has prepared a growth and employment package in line with the Government’s decisions. The package will be funded by redistributing unused funds from the investment aid programmes in the branch of Government of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. The estimated total amount of funds will be EUR 156 million.

18.9.2025 | At its meeting on 16 September, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo lead the Research and Innovation Council in discussions on the implementation of national policies for the use of R&D funding. The Research and Innovation Council was briefed by the Research Council of Finland and Business Finland as well as two organisations that are implementing significant national R&D projects.
