7.5.2026 | On 7 May 2026, the Government submitted for approval amendments to the Act on Transport Services, the Driving Licence Act, the Act on the Organisation of Driver Examinations and the Act on the Enforcement of a Fine. The amendments aim to improve the operating conditions for the transport sector. Most of the acts and the amended decree will enter into force on 15 May 2026.

6.8.2025 | Between January and July this year, Finland donated a total of 31 rescue service vehicles to Ukraine. Other civilian material assistance amounted to 32 truckloads of supplies.

27.6.2025 | The clean energy transition is progressing at a good pace, thanks in part to the emissions trading system. However, reaching Finland’s climate targets will require more action in the effort sharing sector, and especially in the land use sector where emissions increased compared to the previous year.

4.11.2025 | On 3 November 2025, the European Commission announced that 61 projects had been selected for funding under the latest Innovation Fund call for net-zero technologies. The projects will receive a total of EUR 2.9 billion in support. Five Finnish projects are among those selected: NotNukeOne, SCOOP, MAGHYC, NEXT HYDROMET and SB-VARKAUS.

22.1.2024 | The European Member States, Parliament and the Commission have reached a provisional agreement on a regulation on CO2 emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs). The emissions reduction targets for new heavy-duty vehicles will gradually tighten and the scope of application of the regulation will widen. The accord was achieved in tripartite negotiations on 18 January 2024.

15.7.2024 | On 15 July 2024, the Ministry of Transport and Communications published an assessment report on how the electrification of transport could contribute to the flexibility of the Finnish energy system. In accordance with EU requirements, the report describes the current state of the opportunities which the electrification of transport could offer and proposes measures. 

10.1.2019 | The maximum length of a vehicle combination in road traffic will increase from 25.25 to 34.5 metres. The maximum permissible mass remains at 76 tonnes. 29.6.2023 | On 29 June 2023, the Government submitted to Parliament a Union communication on the Commission's proposal for a directive concerning the carbon dioxide emission classes of heavy-duty vehicles with trailers. The proposal aims to accelerate the reduction of emissions from heavy-duty vehicles and the achievement of the Union's climate policy objectives.

The Government approved and gave to Parliament the Report on the Medium-term Climate Change Policy Plan on 2 June 2022.
