2.6.2020 | In the fourth supplementary budget, the Government proposes appropriations to be granted to the administrative branch of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health to be used for unemployment security, for purchasing a coronavirus vaccine, for coronavirus testing, social assistance and social services for children, young people and families, among other things.

Finland has sent wide-ranging support to Ukraine; defence material; civilian material; humanitarian aid; and development cooperation. 28.2.2024 | The quality recommendation for older people strives to guarantee the active ageing and functional capacity of older people along with sustainable services. The quality recommendation is a tool for planning, developing and assessing services for older people. The recommendation is also intended for older people themselves and their families and other people close to them.

9.6.2023 | The Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO) will meet in Luxembourg on 12–13 June 2023. The topics of the meeting include platform work, health and safety at work, labour market dialogue, gender equality, strengthening the pharmaceutical ecosystem, combating antimicrobial resistance, mental health at workplaces, and loneliness.

12.2.2019 | In its meeting on Tuesday 12 February, the ministerial working group for health and wellbeing discussed the current status of care services for the elderly. The ministerial working group decided to start its work on the reform of the Act on Care Services for Older Persons during this government term.

Accessibility information refers to information on such questions as how the transport infrastructure and mobility service are suited to the elderly and people with reduced mobility, for example in respect of lifts at transport terminals and low-floor train carriages or buses.

10.6.2021 | On 10 June 2021, the Government adopted a resolution that proposes measures to improve the level of information security and data protection in critical sectors of society. The proposals in the resolution are based on the outline of a cross-sectoral working group.

10.12.2020 | On Thursday 10 December, the Government adopted a resolution on Finland’s COVID-19 vaccine strategy, the key content of which was outlined in negotiations last week.

19.3.2020 | The Government's objective is to protect people over 70 years of age from risk of contracting coronavirus (COVID-19). Older people are clearly at a higher risk than young people of getting serious symptoms requiring hospital care.

28.8.2023 | The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health proposes appropriations of about EUR 16.15 billion for the Ministry and its administrative branch for 2024. This is about EUR 0.4 billion more than in the 2023 Budget. The increase is mainly due to changes in the needs assessment.

19.12.2019 | The age limit for the extension on unemployment benefit will rise by one year for those born in or after 1961. In future, unemployed persons born in or after 1961 will be entitled to extended unemployment allowance at the age of 62 instead of 61, as is currently the case.

26.3.2020 | On 25 March 2020, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment appointed a joint ministerial working group to assess the need for entry into the country of employees working in essential sectors in the state of emergency caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

22.1.2021 | On 22 January, the Government decided to tighten the restrictions on entry into Finland. The new restrictions will enter into force on 27 January and will remain in force until 25 February. The new restrictions aim to reduce cross-border traffic in order to prevent the spread of the new COVID-19 variants. The epidemiological situation in Finland differs considerably from that in other Schengen countries.
