  1. 27.1.2026 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo is in China for an official visit from 24 to 29 January. On Tuesday 27 January, Prime Minister Orpo met for separate discussions with President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Li Qiang and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji. In all three discussions, Prime Minister Orpo highlighted Finland’s and Europe’s support for Ukraine, EU-China relations and a variety of bilateral issues, including increasing Finland’s exports to China.

  2. 8.1.2026 | On Thursday 8 January, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed progress in the Ukraine peace process, including the results of the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris on 6 January. As part of the Coalition, Finland stresses the importance of strong security guarantees in achieving a sustainable solution. The United States’ participation in Ukraine’s security guarantees is vital.

  3. 24.11.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo is of the view that the negotiations between Ukraine and the United States in Geneva have moved the Ukraine peace plan in the right direction.   4. 1.12.2025 | Finland’s second National Action Plan for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security has been published. The Action Plan serves as a roadmap for involving young people in peace and security work in ministries and organisations alike, both nationally and internationally. The ownership and participation of young people was the guiding principle in the preparation of the Action Plan.

  6. 23.7.2025 | The Finnish Chairpersonship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe will host the OSCE Chairpersonship Youth Forum in Helsinki on 29–30 July 2025.   7. 23.4.2025 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ programme features a discussion on how to involve young people in peace negotiations. The discussion will take place on the World Village Festival’s Speaker’s Stage at Tiivistämö on 24 May at 13.15. Participants are Adina Nivukoski, Finland's Youth Delegate to the UN, and Senior Specialist Laura Hendry from the Foreign Ministry’s Centre for Peace Mediation.

  11. 5.12.2023 | The consultation round concerning the changes to industrial peace legislation ended on 5 December 2023. In total, 53 comments were submitted. As part of further preparations, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will now analyse the feedback received. The ministerial working group on employment and entrepreneurship will discuss the reform still in December 2023. The draft proposal will also be sent to the Finnish Council of Regulatory Impact Analysis for evaluation.

The day reminds us of the importance of free and independent media as the foundation for democracy, the rule of law and an open society. Finland is for the first time a key collaborating partner of the event.
