20.11.2025 | On Thursday 20 November, the Government submitted its proposal to Parliament to amend the budget proposal for 2026. It includes proposals to launch new transport projects and to support Ukraine. The proposal will decrease the revenue estimate by EUR 189 million and increase the requirement for appropriations by EUR 455 million.

13.6.2024 | The State and the shareholder municipalities of West Railway Ltd – Turku, Espoo, Salo, Lohja, Vihti and Kirkkonummi – have been negotiating on the terms and conditions of the pre-agreement which will enable the transition to the construction phase of the West Railway. Helsinki, which was involved in the planning phase of the project, will not take part in funding the construction phase.

3.9.2024 | The 2025 budget proposal of Prime Minister Orpo's Government bolsters conditions for economic growth. Economic growth driven by the private sector will also serve to secure the financing base for central government finances. The fast-acting measures to curb indebtedness that were decided on due to the difficult situation in central government finances will move forward.

11.8.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications proposes that EUR 3.78 billion be allocated to its administrative branch for 2026. This is about EUR 60 million less than in the 2025 Budget.

1.9.2022 | The Government has agreed on its budget proposal for 2023. The budget includes a set of measures to strengthen the vitality of eastern Finland. More than half of the measures are the responsibility of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. EUR 31 million will be allocated for improving the Karelia rail line in northern and southern Karelia and in Kymenlaakso. A EUR 13 million project to repair the railway bridge in Syrjäsalmi will also be implemented in 2023.
