21.1.2025 | A report on the possible need to make amendments to board-level employee representation was submitted by rapporteur Jukka Ahtela (Master of Laws, Trained on the Bench) to Minister of Employment Arto Satonen on 21 January 2025. The report will now be discussed by a tripartite working group. The Government will assess the need for amendments in its mid-term policy review session in spring 2025.

8.12.2023 | Finland is currently preparing for its chairpersonship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2025. As part of the preparations, Finland will reinstate the OSCE delegation, which operates in conjunction with the Embassy of Finland in Vienna, as Permanent Representation as of 1 January 2024.

24.6.2019 | The last Energy Council of the Romanian Presidency will be held in Luxembourg on 25 June. Finland’s representative at the meeting is the Minister of Economic Affairs Katri Kulmuni.

20.12.2024 | The start of 2025 will see the entry into force of new acts and decrees. The most important changes in the administrative branch of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment are summarised below.

8.6.2023 | The Justice and Home Affairs Council will meet in Luxembourg on 8 June. Finland will be represented at the meeting by Markku Keinänen, Head of Mission to the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU. One of the topics on the agenda of the meeting of home affairs ministers is the reform of the EU’s asylum system. The aim is to reach agreement on two proposals for regulations, which are essential to the whole, in order to proceed with the negotiations with the European Parliament.

27.1.2025 | The EU General Affairs Council (GAC) will meet on Tuesday 28 January in Brussels. In the meeting, the GAC will continue its annual rule of law dialogue with country-specific discussions on the rule of law situation in Hungary, Portugal, Romania and Slovenia. The Council will also discuss the priorities for Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU. Finland’s Permanent Representative to the European Union, Jori Arvonen, will represent Finland at the meeting.

11.12.2020 | EU energy ministers will discuss energy system integration from the perspective of upcoming legislative proposals and energy targets at an informal ministerial meeting on 14 December 2020. Finland’s representative at the video meeting will be Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä.

19.6.2024 | The EU ministers will meet at the Employment, Social Affairs, Health and Consumer Affairs Council in Luxembourg on 20 and 21 June 2024. The items of the ministers' agenda include the social dimension of the single market, the revision of pharmaceutical legislation, the health sector's role in crisis preparedness, and the possibility of adopting a Council Recommendation on vaccine-preventable cancers.

19.12.2024 | On 19 December 2024, the President of the Republic approved legislative amendments that will enable more local collective bargaining in companies. The amendments will enter into force on 1 January 2025.

14.3.2025 | The first Energy Council meeting under the Polish Presidency will be held in Brussels on 17 March 2025 with a focus on the Commission’s action plan for affordable energy and the energy security situation in the EU. Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala will represent Finland at the meeting.

15.4.2019 | Parliamentary elections were held in Finland on 14 April 2019. The process of forming a new government begins after the organising of the new Parliament and the State Opening of Parliament.

27.4.2020 | On 28 April 2020, the EU energy ministers will meet to discuss the measures required to deal with the COVID-19 epidemic in the energy sector. The main points of view to be addressed at the informal Council meeting are strengthening security of supply, recovery from the acute crisis and measures to restore the economy. State Secretary Kimmo Tiilikainen will represent Finland at the video meeting on behalf of Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä.

19.9.2023 | The EU Member States will celebrate the European Organic Day in various ways around the autumn equinox. The staff of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will enjoy an organic breakfast on 25 September, and will invite the staff of the European Commission Representation in Finland and representatives of the National Nutrition Council, ProLuomu and Finnish Organic Association to join them.

11.7.2019 | Finland was established as a constitutional democracy one hundred years ago. To celebrate this, Wednesday 17 July has been designated as a national flag day. On the same day, a seminar will be held at the SuomiAreena public debate forum to discuss the meaning of constitutional republic as the cornerstone of the Finnish democracy and society. Keynote speakers at the seminar include Speaker of Parliament Matti Vanhanen, Minister of Finance Mika Lintilä and Minister of Justice Anna-Maja Henriksson.
