Finland congratulates century-old Latvia
Latvia’s centenary is being celebrated on its national day on Sunday 18 November. The President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö is currently visiting Riga to celebrate Latvia’s centenary, and Prime Minister Juha Sipilä expressed Finland’s warm congratulations to Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis of Latvia on its 100th anniversary.
In his congratulatory message, Prime Minister Sipilä applauded the good relations between Finland and Latvia and reaffirmed Finland’s desire to further develop the relations.
Finland will celebrate Latvia’s centenary by flying the flag and by illuminations. Ministry of the Interior recommendation on flying the national flag to commemorate Latvia’s national day. Flags will be raised at 8.00 and lowered at 16.00. The Ministry of the Interior has issued an order on flying the national flag at the Government Palace, the ministries and Parliament.
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs will commemorate Latvia by illuminating Merikasarmi, its main building. Merikasarmi will be illuminated from Saturday evening to Monday morning. The illumination is a part of the centenary celebrations of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
