On 12 May 2021, the Government appointed a delegation that will attend the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) International Labour Conference on 3–19 June 2021. The delegation includes representatives of the Government, employers and employees. Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen will speak about the coronavirus pandemic and working life at the plenary session of the Conference.

In the delegation, the Government delegates are Liisa Heinonen, Senior Ministerial Adviser of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, and Kirsti Kauppi, Ambassador of the Permanent Mission of Finland in Geneva. Employers are represented by Katja Miettinen, Senior Legal Adviser from the Confederation of Finnish Industries EK, while Paula Ilveskivi, Senior Legal Adviser from the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions SAK, represents employees. Deputy delegates have been appointed too.

The International Labour Conference 2021 will be organised mainly online and therefore exceptionally in two parts. In the first part in June, the Conference will address current challenges to social security and compliance with ILO conventions in the Member States. The ministers will discuss the effects of the coronavirus on working life. The second part of the Conference in November–December will focus on inequality at work as well as skills and lifelong learning.

The International Labour Conference is the highest decision-making body of the ILO. It convenes once a year. The tripartite structure ILO means that workers, employers and governments all participate equally in the organisation’s work.
