On 22 December 2025, the Ministry of Transport and Communications has ratified decrees, supported by the Finance Committee, which define the fees for Traficom’s services. The decrees will enter into force on 1 January 2026.

Increase most Traficom fees Although the proposed increases to the fees are proportionally high, the practical impact on citizens will remain moderate in most cases.

The aim of the increases is to ensure cost recovery in Traficom’s chargeable activities. The current fees have remained unchanged for several years, even though costs have steadily risen.  At the same time, new duties have been assigned to Traficom through national legislation, EU regulations and international agreements.

In June 2025, the Ministerial Committee for Economic Policy decided that government agencies’ chargeable operations must achieve cost recovery in accordance with the Act on Criteria for Charges Payable to the State by 2027 at the latest.

Key changes

  • Traficom’s hourly electronic communications fees will increase from €150 to €180, and the one-year domain name fee will increase from €9 to €12. The costs of domain name control have increased with changes in the security environment.
  • The proposal on the annual fee for domain name registrars has been removed from the decree on electronic communications fees. There has been a reassessment of the legal base of such a fee.
  • The basic frequency fee will increase from €1,295.50 to €1,450. The minimum fee will increase from €18 to €35.
  • The proposal for a new application fee for radio interference equipment has been removed from the decree regulating frequency administration fees. This was done because the process for the Government proposal for electronic communication services is incomplete.
  • Fees charged for transport services and all forms of transport will increase by 10–30 per cent on average.

In addition to Traficom, new decrees on the service fees of the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency and the Finnish Meteorological Institute have been ratified. The decrees will enter into force on 1 January 2026.
