Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman will visit China on 25–28 June 2024. The main purpose of the visit is to promote Finnish companies that are engaged in business and cooperation in China. Rydman will meet the Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao, among others.

The meeting with Minister of Commerce Wentao in Beijing will focus on the business environment and issues related to the trade and economic relations between Finland and China. In addition, Rydman will meet with China’s Minister of Science and Technology Yin Hejun, leaders of Jiangsu Province and the City of Shanghai, representatives of the Finnish Chamber of Commerce and several Finnish companies operating in China.

The strengths of Finnish companies engaged in business in China include high level of quality, low-carbon products and the flexibility to respond to customers’ needs. While Finnish companies face challenges in China, those operating in the country for a longer time have learned to manage in the challenging environment.

Minister Rydman will attend an energy conference between Finnish and Chinese companies in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province, and visit a Valmet plant in Shanghai.

China is one of the biggest markets and most important production platforms for Finnish companies engaged in global business. The total value of trade between the countries (goods and services) was nearly EUR 13 billion in 2023. There are 250 subsidiaries of around 100 Finnish parent companies operating in China, whose turnover in China reached nearly EUR 16 billion in 2022.
