At its session on 1 December, the Government appointed a new Deputy Director General for the Department for Development Policy.

Deputy Director General, Department for Development Policy

The Government promoted Counsellor Lauratuulia Lehtinen to the public office of Counsellor for Foreign Affairs starting on 1 December 2024 and appointed her to the post of Deputy Director General of the Department for Development Policy at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for a fixed term from 1 December 2024 to 31 August 2028.


Lehtinen transfers to the post of Deputy Director General from her previous post as Director of the Unit for Humanitarian Assistance. Prior to this, she served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Permanent Representation of Finland to NATO in 2018–2020. Lehtinen has also held other positions, including at the Permanent Mission of Finland to the OSCE in Vienna and at the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU in Brussels. Lehtinen joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 2004. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Sciences.
