Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen to visit Washington DC

Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will visit Washington DC on 10 April 2025. She will meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Valtonen and Rubio  will discuss bilateral relations between Finland and the United States, Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and Euro-Atlantic security.

“The United States is a key ally and strategic partner for Finland. Cooperation between Europe and the United States is of paramount importance when it comes to strengthening Euro-Atlantic security and making progress towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine,” says Foreign Minister Valtonen. 

Minister Valtonen will also discuss topical foreign and security policy issues with representatives of the US administration and US Congress in Washington.

“There should not be barriers to trade between allies. Instead, we need more free trade and deeper economic cooperation to boost our competitiveness on both sides of the Atlantic,” Minister Valtonen says.
