Germany’s Foreign Minister Wadephul to visit Finland

Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Johann Wadephul will visit Finland on 15–16 July and meet Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen. The ministers will have bilateral discussions and visit various sites to learn about security in the northern region of Europe.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen and Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul will discuss the bilateral relations between Finland and Germany and topical foreign and security policy issues concerning both the EU and NATO. The main topics on the agenda include Russia’s war of aggression and support for Ukraine, transatlantic relations, situation in the Middle East and China.

In addition to bilateral discussions, the ministers will learn about security in the Baltic Sea and northern region and the activities of the Finnish Border Guard and Defence Forces. The ministers will also visit the Merihaka civil defence shelter.

“Germany is a very important partner for Finland. We wish to further deepen the good relations and strategic partnership between our countries, both in foreign and security policy and in the trade sector,” Minister for Foreign Affairs Valtonen says.
