Foreign Minister Valtonen is visiting Lviv
The EU foreign ministers convened for an informal meeting hosted by High Representative Kaja Kallas and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha in Lviv, Ukraine, on 9 May. A meeting on the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine was also held in connection with the foreign ministers’ meeting. Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen represented Finland at the meeting in Lviv.
The meetings in Lviv sent an important signal of the EU’s unwavering support for Ukraine.
“Ukraine has repeatedly indicated its desire for a lasting peace. This aim and the Ukrainians’ fight for European security, now in its fourth year, deserve our strongest possible support now and in the future. The meeting in Ukraine was very important for strengthening our joint efforts,” Minister Valtonen said.
Finland supports the efforts of the international community to bring Russia and its representatives to justice.
“By holding the Russian leaders behind the act of aggression criminally liable, the international community shows that perpetrators of the most serious crimes cannot escape their responsibility. This may prevent similar acts in the future and strengthen the entire international rules-based system,” Valtonen said.
