Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will attend a meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Brussels on 3 December.

The main topics on the meeting agenda will be NATO’s current strategic affairs and the Alliance’s support for Ukraine. The foreign ministers will also prepare the next NATO Summit to be held in Ankara in July 2026.

The foreign ministers will also convene at a session of the NATO–Ukraine Council.

“Russia will remain a threat to NATO even if the war in Ukraine ended. That is why we must continue to strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defence. Finland will make a strong contribution to this,” says Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen.

“It is equally important that we ensure a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and support the ongoing efforts for peace. We recently announced our strong support for the NATO initiative to purchase defence materiel for Ukraine,” Minister Valtonen continues.

The foreign ministers’ meeting will be chaired by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

At the session of the NATO–Ukraine Council, the NATO foreign ministers will be joined by Ukraine’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas.
