Foreign Minister Valtonen to meet Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Lê Hoài Trung

Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will meet Vietnam’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Lê Hoài Trung in Helsinki on 21 October. Lê Hoài Trung will visit Finland as part of the delegation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Tô Lâm on his official visit to the country.

The foreign ministers will discuss the bilateral relations between Finland and Vietnam and topical foreign and security policy issues, including European security, Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine, the South China Sea and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

“Vietnam is an important partner for Finland in Southeast Asia, which is growing in global importance. We aim to deepen our cooperation in many sectors in the future,” says Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen.

The bilateral meeting is part of the visit of the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. General Secretary Tô Lâm and his spouse Ngô Phương Ly will pay an official visit to Finland from 21 to 22 October 2025. The visit will be hosted by President of the Republic Alexander Stubb and his spouse Suzanne Innes-Stubb. During his visit, the General Secretary will also meet with Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Paula Risikko. In addition, he will attend a business seminar and visit Aalto University and Nokia’s head office in Espoo. The General Secretary’s delegation will include several Vietnamese ministers.
