Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will travel to Canada on 13–14 April.

During her visit, Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen will meet Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand in Ottawa on 14 April.

Valtonen and Anand will discuss the implementation of the Finland–Canada strategic partnership, Arctic security and other topical foreign and security policy issues.

The countries signed a strategic partnership on foreign and security policy in August 2025. The implementation of the strategic partnership is essential to deepening and broadly advancing the relations between Finland and Canada.

“Canada is a key strategic partner for Finland, sharing similar values and aims. Collaboration with our important ally is now being further developed. Having close allies is more important than ever in the current geopolitical situation,” says Minister Valtonen.

While in Ottawa, Valtonen will also participate in the programme of President of the Republic Alexander Stubb’s working visit, including in an event for the Finnish business delegation aimed at strengthening Finnish-Canadian commercial and economic relations.
