New NATO Glossary lists organisation names in Finnish and Swedish
The NATO Glossary, prepared in a terminology project set up by the Finnish Prime Minister’s Office, gives recommendations for Finnish and Swedish equivalents of English NATO terms. The first edition of the glossary contains the names of some 80 organisations in NATO’s political and military structure.
The glossary provides translations of the names of key political cooperation bodies, committees under the North Atlantic Council (NAC), divisions of the International Staff and International Military Staff at NATO Headquarters, and bodies of the military command structure such as Allied Command Operations (ACO) and Allied Command Transformation (ACT). Other terms will be added later.
Set up by the Finnish Prime Minister’s Office, the terminology project team drawing up the glossary aims to provide common recommendations for Finnish and Swedish equivalents of NATO terms. Project participants include experts and language specialists from the Finnish ministries, the Finnish Defence Forces and the Institute for the Languages of Finland. The glossary is being circulated for comments among partners in Finland, Sweden and the European Union.
