Leijona Catering Oy commenced operations
The Government has made a decision on the establishment of a new limited company. The decision authorises the Prime Minister’s Office to set up a limited company which will take responsibility for the capital and catering services earlier organised by the Finnish Defence Forces.
The new company, Leijona Catering Oy, began its operations on 1 January 2012 and it specialises in catering services. Leijona Catering Oy is a limited company fully owned by the State of Finland. Duties relating to its ownership steering are handled in the Ownership Steering Department at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The company's net sales are EUR 65 million and it employs 550 persons. The company's main offices are in Kuopio. At the start of business activity, the company’s main customer is the Finnish Defence Forces. Leijona Catering Oy is to provide catering services to the Defence Forces in both normal and emergency conditions. The corporate restructuring is to improve the cost-efficiency, operations, quality, and services of the Defence Forces' catering provision.
The restructuring affects the entire catering services personnel which was transferred to the new limited company with positions corresponding with their earlier duties. The personnel is protected by a four-year clause during which time they cannot be laid-off on the basis of production-related or financial reasons unless there are significant changes in the company's field of operations.
