Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto visited Kyiv, Ukraine, on 28 November together with Nordic and Baltic foreign ministers. In Kyiv, the foreign ministers met the President and the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, among others, and reaffirmed their countries’ firm support to Ukraine.

Foreign Minister Haavisto was joined in Kyiv by the foreign ministers of Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. The purpose of the joint visit was to show the countries’ firm support to Ukraine following Russia’s illegal invasion. In Kyiv, the Nordic and Baltic foreign ministers met Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and other representatives of the Ukrainian government.

One of the topics of the visit was Ukraine’s need for assistance and support. Russia has continued its missile barrage against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which aggravates the need for immediate support. Accountability matters associated with Russia’s illegal aggression against Ukraine were another topic of discussion in Kyiv.

“Finland strongly condemns Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. We will continue our firm support to Ukraine as long as necessary,” says Minister Haavisto.
