Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Tavio to visit Canada

Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will travel to the Province of Ontario, Canada, on 20–23 October 2025. During his visit, the Minister will visit Toronto and the country’s capital Ottawa.

Minister Ville Tavio will participate in two quantum technology events in Ottawa together with Finnish business representatives. In Toronto, the Minister will meet with leaders of the Province of Ontario and explore opportunities for cooperation with local companies.

“Canada, particularly its largest province Ontario, is an excellent market for Finnish companies in many sectors. Toronto and Ottawa, along with their top universities, are at the core of Canada’s quantum ecosystem, making them attractive cooperation partners for Finnish quantum researchers and companies. Finland’s world-class quantum businesses can offer valuable solutions to Canada in areas such as superconductors, low temperature physics and algorithm development of quantum computing,” says Minister Tavio.

In Ottawa, Minister Tavio will meet his counterpart, Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu, and other representatives of the Canadian government. The meetings will focus on deepening bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Finland and Canada and on topical trade and economic policy issues.

“In the context of growing uncertainty in trade policy, it is important for Finland to deepen relations with like-minded countries. Canada is a key ally and reliable strategic partner for Finland. In our new Team Finland strategy, we have identified Canada as one of Finland’s priority markets for trade promotion,” Minister Tavio says.
