NATO foreign ministers discuss EU-NATO cooperation and Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan

The Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs will be organised at NATO Headquarters in Brussels on 6-7 December 2016.

Finland has been invited to participate in sessions focusing on EU-NATO cooperation and the Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan. Ambassador Piritta Asunmaa will represent Finland at the meeting. Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini is not taking part in the meeting because in connection with his medical leave his doctor has advised him not to fly.

In addition to Finland, Sweden and EU High Representative Federica Mogherini will also attend the session discussing EU-NATO cooperation. The agenda will include issues relating to the implementation of the EU-NATO joint declaration adopted at the Warsaw Summit. At the session, the joint address of Finland and Sweden will be delivered by the Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström.

The session on the Resolute Support mission will focus on the political and security situation in Afghanistan and plans relating to the operation’s future.
