The new Government of Finland will be appointed on Tuesday 20 June. On Monday 19 June, President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö will meet with Speaker of Parliament and leader of the government formation talks Petteri Orpo at Mäntyniemi and then inform Parliament of the nominee for Prime Minister.

Parliament will be informed of the nominee for Prime Minister in its plenary session starting at 11.00 on Tuesday and will elect the new Prime Minister in a second plenary session starting immediately after that.

The President of the Republic will formally appoint the Prime Minister and other government ministers in the presidential session starting in the afternoon. The ministers will be appointed as proposed by the Prime Minister. On the same occasion, the President of the Republic will accept the outgoing Government's resignation.

Promptly after its appointment, the new Government will convene for a constitutive session. At the start of the session, the ministers will take an oath or affirmation of office and a judicial oath, if they have not yet done so. The session will decide on the division of responsibilities of ministers working in the same ministry, the composition of statutory ministerial committees and the deputising arrangements for the prime minister and other ministers. The Government Programme will be given as a statement to Parliament.

Following the constitutive session, the new Government will pay a complimentary visit to the Presidential Palace. This is preceded by a farewell visit by the outgoing Government.
