Prime Minister Sipilä met Argentinian Vice President Gabriela Michetti

Prime Minister Juha Sipilä and Vice President of Argentina, President of the Senate Gabriela Michetti met today in Helsinki at the House of the Estates. The visit, hosted by Prime Minister Sipilä, is in celebration of the centennial of Finland–Argentina relations. Argentina was the first non-European country to recognise Finland's independence. Besides discussing bilateral relations, Sipilä and Michetti also discussed ways to promote free trade and closer commercial cooperation between Finland and Argentina. Sipilä highlighted the potential for cooperation especially in bioeconomy and forestry, as well as in education, digitalisation and energy.

Argentina currently holds the G20 Presidency. Prime Minister Sipilä congratulated Argentina on its success in being constructive during its G20 Presidency to date. Finland’s participation in G20 cooperation has been highly rewarding, particularly in the field of education. Prime Minister Sipilä and Vice President Michetti also noted that both countries are advocates of the rules-based international system and multilateral cooperation.
