Foreign Minister Haavisto's State Secretary Johanna Sumuvuori will attend the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, held in Marrakesh, Morocco, on 11 May.

The meeting will be co-hosted by the United States and Morocco. The meeting will discuss the Coalition’s actions against ISIS in Africa and in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.

“Finland is committed to the work of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS. Progress has been made in the fight against ISIS in Iraq and Syria and it is important to continue this work. It is also essential to take into account the current situation in Africa and Afghanistan,” State Secretary Sumuvuori says.

Finland joined the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS in 2014. Finland supports Iraq’s stability and security sector reform by participating in the Coalition’s Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), and it also supports the stabilisation measures in Syria.
