Tuomioja the longest serving Minister for Foreign Affairs

On Monday 9 February 2015, Minister Erkki Tuomioja will have served as Minister for Foreign Affairs for a total of 3,940 days. According to ministerial statistics, this means that Tuomioja will overtake long-serving Minister for Foreign Affairs Paavo Väyrynen. Ahti Karjalainen comes third.

Tuomioja became Minister for Foreign Affairs for the first time in Paavo Lipponen's second government from February in the year 2000. He has also served as Minister for Foreign Affairs in the Jäätteenmäki, Vanhanen I and Katainen governments. In Prime Minister Stubb's government, Tuomioja has been Minister for Foreign Affairs since June 2014.

In addition, he was Minister of Trade and Industry in the Lipponen II government. On 9 February, he will have clocked up 4,256 days as a minister.
