The government formation talks continue at the House of the Estates. Petteri Orpo is leading the formation of the government. The political parties participating in the talks are the National Coalition Party, the Finns Party, the Swedish People’s Party of Finland and the Christian Democrats in Finland.

Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto and United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken signed a Joint Statement on Cooperation in Advanced Wireless Communications between Finland and the United States in Helsinki on 2 June. In the Joint Statement, Finland and the United States confirm their common ambition to cooperate in key areas of 6G research and development and to increase interaction between Finnish and US actors.

The heads of state or government of the EU Member States and 20 other European countries met for the European Political Community (EPC) Summit in Moldova on 1 June. The EPC Summit focused on three themes: security, energy and strengthening connections between the participating countries.

Defence Forces to purchase armoured 6x6 personnel carriers

Minister of Defence Antti Kaikkonen has authorised the Defence Forces to procure armoured 6x6 personnel carriers from Patria. A total of 91 armoured personnel carriers with equipment will be procured for the Army. In addition to the vehicles, user and maintenance training are included in the procurement, which also includes a provision to procure more vehicles, at the most 70.

246,100 unemployed jobseekers in April

Unemployed jobseekers at the end of April, a total of 246,100. This is 7,400 more than a year earlier.
The number of unemployed jobseekers rose by 7,400. The number of new vacancies reported in April totalled 74,400. In all, the number of unfilled vacancies amounted to 170,300, which is 70,400 fewer than a year ago.
