25.5.2026 | The EU General Affairs Council (GAC) will meet on Tuesday 26 May in Brussels. Items on the agenda for the meeting include the EU’s multiannual financial framework for 2028–2034, preparations for the June European Council and the continuation of the annual rule of law dialogue. Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand will represent Finland at the meeting.

The meeting will focus on a variety of topical issues on the EU agenda and on bilateral relations between Croatia and Finland.

17.6.2022 | Early next week, Prime Minister Sanna Marin will visit Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania and Croatia. The main topics on the agenda of the meeting with the state leaders are Finland’s application to join NATO, the impact of the application on strengthening NATO’s security, and NATO's future policies. Other topics to be discussed are the EU accession processes of Albania, North Macedonia and Montenegro.

10.9.2020 | Prime Minister Sanna Marin will attend a video meeting of EU leaders on Thursday 10 September. The purpose of the meeting is to prepare for the Special European Council to be held in Brussels on 24–25 September, which will cover topics such as the EU’s relations with Turkey and China.

8.7.2021 | The Government has decided to continue internal border control until 25 July to ensure the introduction of health security measures at borders. After this short transitional period, internal border control and entry restrictions at internal borders will be lifted. Internal border traffic refers to traffic between Finland and other Schengen countries. Changes will be made to external border control as well.

5.11.2020 | On 5 November, the Government adopted a decision on restrictions on entry into the country, which will enter into force on Monday 9 November. Restrictions will be lifted for residents of Singapore who are travelling from their home country to Finland. Restrictions on entry will also be lifted for residents of the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions who are travelling from these regions to Finland, provided that reciprocity is confirmed by the Council of the European Union.

10.7.2020 | On 10 July, the Government decided on the continuation of internal border control and on the restrictions on external border traffic. As of 13 July 2020, the Government will lift the restrictions on traffic at the internal borders between Finland and countries where the incidence of the coronavirus is similar to that in the countries where internal border control has already been lifted.
