4.3.2025 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will represent Finland at the informal meeting of EU telecommunications ministers in Warsaw on 4 and 5 March 2025. The meeting was convened by the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

13.12.2023 | The EU Member States and the Western Balkan countries deepened their cooperation at a summit in Brussels on Wednesday 13 December. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo stressed that the partnership between the EU and the Western Balkans has become even more important for ensuring European security due to Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine.

24.11.2023 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa met in Helsinki on Friday 24 November. The prime ministers’ discussions focused on bilateral relations between Finland and Latvia, security issues and topical themes on the EU agenda.

20.5.2021 | On Thursday 20 May, the Government adopted the Report on Internal Security and submitted it to Parliament for consideration. The objective of the Report is that Finland will be an even safer country for all people and population groups in the future.

9.1.2023 | The revised Directive concerning the security of network and information systems (NIS2) was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 27 December 2022. NIS2 will replace the earlier Directive concerning measures for a high common level of security of network and information systems across the Union (NIS). The Ministry of Transport and Communications launched the national implementation on 2 January 2023 to transpose the obligations of the new Directive into national law.

18.5.2022 | On 12 May 2022, the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament reached a provisional agreement on measures to ensure a high level of cyber security across the EU. The new cybersecurity Directive (NIS2 Directive) will replace the earlier Directive on security of network and information systems (NIS Directive). Its objective is to improve the level of cybersecurity both in the EU as a whole and in Member States in terms of critical sectors and operators.
