9.1.2024 | Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman will attend a ministerial meeting of the future minerals Forum in Saudi Arabia on 9.1.2024.The Forum offers an opportunity to present Finnish mining expertise to the Saudi Arabian, African and Asian markets. During the Forum, the Minister together with Finnish mining and mineral industry operators will attend events to promote bilateral trade and investment relations and partnership projects.

12.12.2023 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has appointed a steering group to prepare an industrial policy strategy in accordance with the Government Programme. The strategy will be drawn up in close interaction with Finnish business and industry and other key interest groups. Permanent Secretary Timo Jaatinen from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will serve as chair of the steering group.

1.3.2024 | Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman will attend the annually organised PDAC, the world’s largest mineral exploration and mining event, and the meeting of mining ministers in Toronto, Canada on 3-4 March 2024. The main theme of the meeting will be responsible mining and the clean transition.

19.11.2025 | On 18 November, Finland, the United States and Canada signed a trilateral Joint Statement of Intent (JSOI) confirming support for the Icebreaker Collaboration Effort (ICE) Pact, launched in autumn 2024. The JSOI was signed in Washington DC by Sakari Puisto, the Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs, Kristi Noem, the United States Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, and Kirsten Hillman, Canada’s Ambassador to the United States.

22.1.2026 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will visit Beijing, China, on 25–28 January. On Tuesday 27 January, Prime Minister Orpo will meet with President of China Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Li Qiang, who is hosting the official visit, and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji. The purpose of the visit is to continue dialogue with the Chinese leadership and to promote business opportunities for Finland in China.

The planned transition into a circular economy will reduce the use of natural resources.

27.1.2020 | Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä will lead a Team Finland visit to France on 29–31 January 2020. The purpose of the visit is to intensify cooperation between Finnish and French companies engaged in the circular economy and in the battery industry, to promote the internationalisation of Finnish companies and to accelerate the global transition to a carbon-neutral economy.

16.6.2022 | “Terrafame’s battery chemicals plant is a good example of how we are developing the Finnish mining and battery industry towards production of higher value added. Finland is introducing advanced processes and technologies and improving competences in a new area that will enable a responsible green transition,” Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä said at the opening of the plant in Sotkamo on 16 June 2022.

9.11.2023 | For the first time, Finland will have a pavilion of its own at the UN Climate Change Conference, COP28. Finland Pavilion will showcase current perspectives on climate change mitigation and adaptation on the global scale and present clean energy innovations and solutions developed in Finland.

30.11.2023 | Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will visit Dubai in the United Arab Emirates 2–4 December. Minister Tavio will attend events organised as part of the UN Climate Change Conference and meet ministers from other countries and representatives of businesses and international organisations.

10.11.2023 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs will organise an induction course into development policy and development cooperation for journalists in January–February 2024, with a special focus on the links between trade and development. A field visit to Zambia is included in the course. The call for applications is open from 10 to 24 November 2023.
