9.4.2026 | The Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy has decided in favour of centralising the Government’s financial administration functions under the Government Shared Services Centre for Finance and HR (Palkeet). With the decision, the central government’s operational financial administration tasks and the information systems that support them will be transferred to Palkeet next year.

24.4.2026 | Credit rating agency S&P Global Ratings revised its outlook of Finland’s credit rating to negative and affirmed the rating as AA+. Finland’s rating is the second highest on the scale. Minister of Finance Riikka Purra was not surprised by S&P’s decision.

15.2.2024 | The Government has appointed Liisa Räsänen, Master of Social Sciences, as Director General of the State Treasury. Räsänen is currently working as a director in the State Treasury.

27.3.2024 | The central government’s financial situation remained difficult, and indebtedness continued in 2023. The year’s expenditures exceeded revenues by EUR 7.4 billion. This figure includes the expenses incurred by the launch of the wellbeing services counties’ activities.

16.1.2026 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has opened a call for applications for project support available for Finnish civil society organisations (CSOs). The call is open from 16 January to 27 February. Applications can be submitted for discretionary government grants for development cooperation projects in 2027–2030. The grant is awarded from the development cooperation appropriations for Finnish CSOs’ development cooperation.

12.12.2025 | Moody’s announced that Finland’s ratings are still at the second highest level, Aa1, and Finland's outlook is stable.

8.12.2025 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs opens a call for applications for discretionary government grants for civil society organisations (CSOs) and communities whose activities are relevant to Finland’s foreign and security policy and its international commitments and that support the promotion of international activities of Finnish businesses and the development and provision of services aimed at helping businesses to expand internationally.

26.7.2025 | On Friday 25 July, the Fitch credit rating agency lowered the rating of Finland’s central government debt by one grade from AA+ to AA. Finland’s outlook is now rated as stable.

28.2.2025 | Minna Kivimäki, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, will attend the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 3 and 4 March 2025, followed by a visit to Madrid to meet representatives of the Spanish administration on 5 March 2025.

26.1.2023 | The Government has decided to keep the annual payments of the state-subsidised rental housing and right of occupancy housing loans (ARAVA) at the same level as in 2022. No adjustment according to the consumer price index will be made in 2023. The decision will curb the pressures to raise rents and management fees in the current situation where the property management costs and the residents’ living costs are also rising rapidly.

5.3.2024 | The State Treasury has used currency hedging in the purchase of F-35 fighter jets by the Finnish Defence Forces. The foreign currency forward contracts concluded on behalf of the state aim to limit currency risk associated with the investment. These contracts fix the price of the currency in advance, providing predictability and financial security for the investment.

8.3.2024 | The aim of updating the strategy is to reduce debt management risks and simplify operations.

29.8.2024 | On 29 August 2024, the Government appointed a new Board for the National Nuclear Waste Management Fund for the term of 1 September 2024–31 August 2027. The chair of the new Board will be Chief Risk Officer Jarkko Heikkilä from the Elo Mutual Pension Insurance Company.

22.1.2024 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has opened a call for applications for development cooperation project grants available for Finnish civil society organisations (CSOs). Applications will be accepted from 22 January to 8 March 2024. During that time, applications can be submitted for discretionary government grants in 2025–2028. Grants are awarded from the development cooperation appropriations for Finnish CSOs’ development cooperation.

10.11.2023 | Finland considers that it has reached the first milestones of its Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). The Ministry of Finance filed the first payment request under the RRP with the European Commission on Friday 10 November. The total amount of the request is EUR 273 million.

13.6.2023 | As a part of the government grant development and digitalisation project, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is implementing new government grant online services. Two calls for applications will be held in autumn 2023: a grant for non-governmental organisations on providing Europe information, and a grant for organisations carrying out foreign and security policy activities. This change requires measures to be taken by the applicants.
