2.12.2025 | The first evaluations have been published on the preliminary impacts and results of Finland’s CAP Strategic Plan. The evaluations analysed the results and impact achieved related to the entrepreneurial income and competitiveness of agriculture, animal welfare, the biodiversity of agricultural environments and emissions from agriculture. The evaluations also contain recommendations for developing the CAP Strategic Plan and the next policy period.

29.8.2024 | Assessments will be conducted to examine the impact of the measures under the CAP Strategic Plan and make sure that public funds are used cost-effectively. The information produced by the assessments will be needed to guide the implementation of the CAP Plan and, in particular, to support the planning of the next financing period of the Common Agricultural Policy.

15.7.2024 | The Agriculture and Fisheries Council met in Brussels on 15 July 2024. The main topics discussed were the viability of rural areas and trade-related agricultural issues. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah represented Finland at the meeting.

21.9.2023 | The Government has appointed Leena Räsänen, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, as Director General of the Finnish Food Authority from 8 October 2023 to 7 October 2028. The current Director General Antti-Jussi Oikarinen will retire. A total of 16 persons applied for the post by the deadline of 24 July 2023.

11.12.2023 | The first year of the EU’s common agricultural policy (CAP) 2023–2027 is coming to an end. In Finland the implementation has started very well, despite the numerous challenges in the environment where we operate today. The national policy outlines are specified in the CAP Strategic Plan, which will have significant impacts on agriculture and on the vitality of the rural areas.

23.1.2024 | The EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council discussed international trade in agricultural products, the organisation of the strategic dialogue on the future of agriculture, a proposal for a regulation on a forest monitoring framework and, on Finland’s initiative, large carnivore matters.

16.12.2021 | At its session on 16 December, the Government approved the proposal for Finland’s CAP Strategic Plan, prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The CAP Strategic Plan under the common agricultural policy of the EU specifies the agricultural support and rural development measures to be implemented in Finland in 2023–2027 and the conditions applicable to the measures included these support schemes.

22.7.2022 | Finland submitted its finalised CAP plan to the European Commission on 20 July 2022. The CAP Strategic Plan and Finland’s responses to the Commission’s observations on the plan are available on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

9.2.2022 | The final reports of the “Capacity of and planning criteria for rescue services and civil emergency preparedness” project have been published on the Institutional Repository for the Government (Valto). The objective of the project was to produce a basis for the national planning criteria for rescue services and investigate how well the resources and capacity of rescue services and civil emergency preparedness correspond to the operating environment, risks and customer needs.
