15.12.2022 | More than 164,000 primary and lower secondary schoolchildren from 1,500 schools took part in the Ministry of Education and Culture’s national student survey. They were asked what extra-curricular activities they would like to try out and what their main reasons for engaging in leisure activities were. More children and young people (85%) now have a meaningful leisure activity than was the case in the 2020 survey.

12.1.2023 | The Ministry of Education and Culture has published the first bildung review, which provides an overview of development in the Ministry’s administrative branch over the past decades. The latest stage, which began in the 1990s, is characterised by a decline in the achieved learning outcomes, the plateauing of the rising level of education among Finns, as well as a gradual decrease in public input into education.

28.2.2019 | Finland has a great deal of potential when it comes to increasing the sustainable use of fish. Up to 50 million kilogrammes of undervalued fish, such as roach and bream, could be caught sustainably each year. In recent years, food products made from traditionally underappreciated fish have begun to conquer the market. Now, research has identified new opportunities to turn these untapped resources into value-added products.

15.1.2019 | During President Niinistö’s state visit to China, Finland has been forging closer links with the Chinese cultural and audiovisual industries. As part of the President’s visit to Beijing, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on cooperation in the fields of culture and cultural tourism. The ongoing negotiations on film and television co-production agreements also progressed.

15.1.2026 | The European Capital of Culture year in Oulu begins with a three-day Opening Festival starting on Friday, 16 January. The programme features nearly 200 events, offering a diverse range of experiences – most of them free of charge and open to people of all ages. Throughout the year, Oulu will be alive with cultural events, performances and exhibitions.

13.6.2025 | The Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs has appointed Elna Nykänen Andersson to serve as Counsellor for Public Diplomacy and Communications at Finland’s Embassy in Tokyo. The three-year term will start on 1 September 2025. The Counsellor for Public Diplomacy and Communications is in charge of the Embassy’s country brand work, external communications and media relations, and leads the Embassy’s country brand team.

13.6.2025 | Utrikesministeriet har utnämnt Elna Nykänen Andersson till kommunikations- och Finlandsbildsattaché vid Finlands ambassad i Tokyo. Befattningen är treårig och Nykänen Andersson börjar arbeta den 1 september 2025. Kommunikations- och Finlandsbildsattachén ansvarar för ambassadens främjande av Finlandsbilden och för den externa kommunikationen och medierelationerna samt leder ambassadens Finlandsbildsteam.

13.6.2025 | Ulkoministeriö on nimittänyt Elna Nykänen Anderssonin viestintä- ja maakuvavirkamieheksi Suomen Tokion-suurlähetystöön. Kausi on kolmivuotinen ja alkaa 1. syyskuuta 2025. Viestintä- ja maakuvavirkamies vastaa suurlähetystön maakuvatyöstä, ulkoisesta viestinnästä ja mediasuhteista sekä johtaa lähetystön maakuvatiimiä.

16.6.2025 | Under sommaren 2025 lyfts kulturprojekt som fått stöd från EU:s landsbygdsfinansiering fram, särskilt i sociala medier. Utbudet är brett – bara genom Leader-grupperna har över 3 000 kulturfrämjande projekt finansierats under de senaste tio åren.

28.1.2025 | More than 112,000 primary and lower secondary schoolchildren from 1,300 schools took part in the Ministry of Education and Culture’s national student survey. According to the survey, 85% of schoolchildren have a hobby they enjoy. 19% of lower secondary school students lack a hobby, even though lower secondary school students showed a great deal of interest in different leisure activities. They indicated an interest in trying out 11 leisure activities.

28.1.2025 | Undervisnings- och kulturministeriets riksomfattande Elevenkät besvarades av över 112 000 lågstadie- och högstadieelever från 1 300 olika skolor. Enligt enkäten har 85 procent av eleverna en hobby som de tycker om. Av eleverna i högstadiet har 19 procent ingen hobby, även om det finns ett stort intresse för olika hobbyaktiviteter bland dem. Enligt enkäten är högstadieeleverna intresserade av att pröva på 11 olika hobbyer.

27.10.2023 | Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala will visit New York and Los Angeles from 30 October to 3 November 2023. Her aim is to deepen cooperation between Finland and the United States in culture, science and the creative sectors. Multala will meet with leaders of local cultural institutions and businesses, visit several universities, and talk to people playing key roles in culture, science and higher education.

27.10.2023 | Forsknings- och kulturminister Sari Multala besöker New York och Los Angeles den 30 oktober–3 november 2023. Syftet med besöket är att stärka samarbetet mellan Finland och Förenta staterna inom både kultursektorn, de kreativa branscherna och forskningssektorn. Multala träffar bland annat direktörer för lokala kulturinstitutioner och kulturföretag, besöker flera olika universitet och bekantar sig med viktiga aktörer inom kultur, forskning och högskoleutbildning.
