Export of ammunition intended for civilian use to become subject to authorisation
The Ministry of the Interior has set up a legislative project to prepare provisions on permit requirements for the export of ammunition. The aim is to prevent especially the export of cartridge components to Russia in line with the EU’s sanctions decision.
The Council of the EU’s decision of 2014 prohibits the selling, supply, transfer or export of arms and related equipment to Russia. In June 2023, the Council amended the regulation to introduce new measures to prevent circumvention of the sanctions imposed on Russia.
According to the amendment to the regulation, the export of ammunition may only be prohibited if the components in question are subject to authorisation in the Member State. The project will prepare legal provisions to make the export of cartridge components subject to authorisation.
The project will also examine the permit requirements for equipment comparable to ammunition and prepare the necessary provisions if no EU regulation exists.
The aim is to ensure the implementation of the EU’s sanctions decision and thus prevent the export of components to Russia. The term of the project will run until 31 December 2024.
