Government adopts clean transition aid scheme for industrial investments: EUR 400 million reserved for 2025
The Government issued a decree on a clean transition aid scheme for industrial investments on 9 January 2025. EUR 400 million has been reserved for the scheme this year. The scheme covers investments implemented in Finland with eligible costs of at least EUR 30 million.
“International competition for investments is fierce. More and more states are competing for the investments with subsidies. We cannot ignore this changed environment if we want to ensure that key investments are implemented in Finland. That is why, it is essential that we have an aid-based investment tool for necessary situations,” says Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman.
The aid scheme is used to grant government grants for significant investments that decarbonise industrial production processes and improve energy efficiency, and to accelerate investments in certain sectors that are strategically important for the transition to a climate-neutral economy.
Applications for government grants must be submitted to Business Finland before the work concerning the investment begins. In other words, only new investment projects are eligible for the grants.
The government decree on the aid scheme will enter into force on 13 January 2025 and the call for applications will begin at the same time. The decisions on government grants must be made by the end of 2025. The European Commission approved the aid scheme on 13 December 2024.
