Elisa Tarkiainen appointed Special Adviser to Prime Minister Orpo

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has invited Elisa Tarkiainen to serve as his special adviser at the Prime Minister’s Office. Tarkiainen will be responsible for EU affairs and for matters related to general and foreign policy. She will take up her duties on 1 September 2024.

Elisa Tarkiainen is transferring to her post from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, where she served as special adviser to Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen. Previously, Tarkiainen has worked for the City of Helsinki as special adviser to the deputy mayor in political affairs, as special adviser to the party leadership at the National Coalition Party headquarters and as special adviser to Minister of Finance Orpo in Prime Minister Sipilä’s Government. At that time, she was responsible for EU and international financial affairs.

Tarkiainen holds a Master’s degree in Social Sciences from the University of Helsinki and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from the University of Hull in the United Kingdom.

Tarkiainen is taking over as special adviser from Tuomas Tikkanen, who has been appointed Senior Adviser to Prime Minister Orpo in European Affairs.
