Minister Tavio to visit London

Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will visit London on 23–24 February to promote commercial and economic cooperation between Finland and the United Kingdom, in particular in the security, defence and space technology sectors. Minister Tavio will also meet Minister of State for Development Baroness Chapman and Minister of State for Business and Trade Chris Bryant.

At their meeting, the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for Development, Baroness Jennifer Chapman, and Minister Tavio will exchange views on trade and development links and the reform of the UN development system.

The discussion between Minister Tavio and Minister of State for Business and Trade Chris Bryant will centre on opportunities for commercial and economic cooperation between Finland and the UK in areas such as critical technology. In addition, the Ministers will discuss topical trade policy issues.

Minister Tavio will speak at a business event showcasing Finnish expertise in space technology. During his visit, the Minister will meet Finnish companies and British operators especially in the security, defence and space technology sectors.

“The UK is an influential global actor and an extremely important partner and ally for Finland, particularly in terms of security and defence. The UK is also the world’s sixth largest economy and a very attractive market for Finnish businesses. Finland has a lot to offer to the UK in areas such as critical technology, security and defence,” Minister Tavio says.

While in London, Minister Tavio will also meet Greg Guyett, First Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Their discussion will focus on Finland’s cooperation with the EBRD and questions related to the reconstruction of Ukraine.
