Minister Tavio to visit Washington D.C. to promote Finnish-US commercial cooperation
Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will visit Washington D.C. in the United States from 4 to 5 February. The aim of the visit is to expand relations with the US administration and to discuss topical commercial and economic issues and bilateral relations between the two countries.
Minister Ville Tavio’s visit will focus on opportunities for commercial and economic cooperation on network connections (5G/6G) and technology. Minister Tavio will meet for example US Deputy Secretary of Commerce Paul Dabbar and Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade William Kimmitt. The discussions aim to provide deeper insight into Finnish know‑how.
“It is important for Finland to increase, not hamper, trade with like-minded countries. Finland has considerable technological, machinery and equipment expertise, which may also benefit the United States. A prime example is the icebreaker pact announced not long ago,” Minister Tavio says.
Beyond the official programme, Minister Tavio will meet Head of Investments Conor Coleman from the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). Finland is well equipped to participate in cooperation in third countries, especially in critical sectors such as communications and energy.
During his visit, Minister Tavio will also attend the National Prayer Breakfast hosted by US Congress representatives. The annual event, held since 1953, is an opportunity for networking with political decision-makers and business leaders.
