Ministry of Defence to host Allied Foresight Conference of Allied Command Transformation in Helsinki on 11-12 June 2024
Finland's Ministry of Defence will host the first ever Allied Foresight Conference of NATO's Allied Command Transformation (ACT) in Helsinki on 11-12 June 2024. The conference aims to intensify cooperation in foresight within the Alliance, support the development of defence capabilities and share best national practices.
"Our complex and rapidly changing operating and security environment requires from us systematic foresight to support strategic planning and decision-making," says Finland's Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen.
The Allied Command Transformation, NATO's Strategic Warfare Development Command, is responsible for enabling the Alliance to keep the edge for the years to come. In order to better understand the future operating environment, ACT takes the lead in planning, implementing, and deploying NATO's shared foresight. Finland was active in NATO's foresight work already as a partner. After joining the Alliance, Finland has intensified this cooperation with the Allies.
"Finland has a high level of foresight capacity both in the government and among researchers. Hosting this conference also supports our national foresight capacity," says Minister Häkkänen.
The Allied Foresight Conference will convene around 180 experts from NATO member countries and partner nations, NATO's centres of excellence, the European Union, the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats and research communities.
