Päivi Anttikoski appointed Director of Government Communications

On Tuesday 19 December, the Government announced the appointment of Päivi Anttikoski, Master of Arts, as Director of the Government Communications Department for a fixed-term period from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2022. The title of Director General of the Government Communications Department is an honorary title for the Director of Government Communications.

Anttikoski first worked as a journalist briefly for the Finnish Broadcasting Company and from 1998 to 2014 for MTV, a Finnish media company, as a journalist in different posts involving for instance current affairs, the economy, foreign affairs and politics. Next she served in the posts of news producer, news editor and news editor-in-chief.   Then Anttikoski started working for Helsingin Sanomat, a Finnish broadsheet, as editor-in-chief in 2014 until the early months of this year. In her post in Helsingin Sanomat she was responsible for the paper’s digital content and productisation.

The Director of Government Communications plans and provides information about communications by the Government and coordinates the external communications of the ministries. The Director of Government Communications is also responsible for implementing the Government's strategic communications in situations specified separately by the Prime Minister. Anttikoski is head of the Government Communications Department.
