16.4.2026 | The Government has submitted to Parliament a proposal for an act on the automated search and exchange of information for European police cooperation. The proposal would introduce amendments to national legislation required by the EU regulation known as Prüm II.

13.5.2026 | The rescEU Medical Stockpile hosted in Finland reached its full material readiness at the end of April. All products specified in the original plan have now been purchased and stored and they are ready to go. 16.4.2026 | Minister of Employment Matias Marttinen has been invited to join the Young Global Leaders network of the World Economic Forum (WEF). Young Global Leaders is a collaborative community of exceptional young leaders from politics, research, business and other sectors. Through its development programme, influential persons under the age of 40 receive tailored leadership training in cooperation with world-class universities.

8.4.2026 | The Ministry of the Interior will allocate around EUR 44 million in EU funding to projects on border management, crime prevention and migration. The projects will improve the capabilities of security authorities, develop information systems, and secure resources for the authorities to manage migration. The funding will be granted from the EU Home Affairs Funds, under the autumn 2025 call for proposals.

16.12.2025 | Eight EU Member States stressed the importance of significantly strengthening security at Europe’s eastern external border at the Eastern Flank Summit in Helsinki on 16 December. The Member States on the EU’s eastern flank called for the Union’s support in building credible and united defence capabilities along the border with Russia from north to south. The summit at the House of the Estates was hosted by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.

4.12.2025 | The Ministry of the Interior has sent out for comments a government proposal for an act on the automated search and exchange of data for police cooperation and for amending the Act on the Processing of Personal Data by the Police. The proposal introduces amendments to national legislation required by the EU Regulation on the automated search and exchange of data for police cooperation (the Prüm II Regulation). The deadline for submitting comments is Monday 19 January 2026.

13.3.2025 | On 13 March 2025, Finland’s Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne and Norway’s Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård signed an agreement in Oslo, Norway, on taxi transport services between the Republic of Finland and the Kingdom of Norway. The agreement permits taxi transport services between Finland and Norway.

23.1.2026 | The European Commission presented proposals on 20 and 21 January 2026 for new cybersecurity regulation and the Digital Networks Act (DNA). The cybersecurity package includes a proposal to revise the Cybersecurity Act and to amend the cybersecurity regulation known as the Network and Information Systems Directive (NIS2 Directive).

6.9.2024 | The Finnish Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen and the Norwegian Minister of Energy Terje Aasland discussed cooperation prospects in the energy sector between the two countries in a virtual meeting on 6 September 2024. 

9.1.2026 | Finland has sent material assistance to Ukraine from the EU-funded rescEU strategic stockpile for the third time. The deployment from Finland included supplies to respond to chemical, biological and radiological threats, as well as medical items.

1.12.2025 | The agreement on cross-border taxi services between Finland and Norway will enter into force on 14 December 2025. It will permit taxi transport between the two countries.
