8.6.2026 | The Ministry of the Interior has today sent out for comments a draft government proposal to supplement an earlier legislative proposal on criminal intelligence. The aim of the proposal is to ensure that the Police Act provides sufficient support for combating crime and that threat‑informed criminal intelligence can be used effectively to intervene in criminal activity such as serious gang crime and organised crime. 4.6.2025 | The EU Transport and Telecommunications Council will convene in Luxembourg from 5 to 6 June 2025. Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will represent Finland at the meeting.

5.5.2025 | Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen, Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne and Director General of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom Jarkko Saarimäki will meet Secretary-General of International Telecommunications Union Doreen Bogdan-Martin in Helsinki on 6 May 2025.

24.4.2026 | ​​​​​​​The Finnish Government proposes that an agreement supplementing the Paris Protocol be accepted to facilitate the establishment and operations of international military headquarters in Finland. The government proposal was submitted to Parliament on 23 April 2026.

4.3.2025 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will represent Finland at the informal meeting of EU telecommunications ministers in Warsaw on 4 and 5 March 2025. The meeting was convened by the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

5.1.2026 | In their meeting on Monday 5 January, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the current efforts to bring an end to Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine and advance the peace process.

22.11.2024 | On Friday 22 November, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the recent damage to undersea telecommunications cables in the Baltic Sea. The National Bureau of Investigation is investigating the matter in Finland and engaging in international cooperation. It is still too early to assess the cause of the damage. The damage does not affect network traffic or Finland’s security of supply.

23.10.2023 | The Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU will hold an informal meeting of telecommunications ministers in León on 23–24 October 2023. Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will represent Finland at the meeting. It will be an informal meeting where no decisions are taken.

1.12.2025 | Finland has recently concluded negotiations with NATO’s strategic commands on an agreement to supplement the Paris Protocol, facilitating the operation of international military headquarters in Finland. The Ministry of Defence led the negotiations team on the Finnish side.

13.10.2025 | To support the preparation of the project "Security and new economic growth from information networks" (TUUTTI), the Ministry of Transport and Communications invited comments on the project's key needs and themes. The consultation was open from 19 June to 31 August 2025.  On 13 October 2025, the Ministry published a summary of the 33 comments received.

7.12.2022 | The EU's telecommunications ministers convened in Brussels on 6 December 2022. Finland was represented by State Secretary Pilvi Torsti. The meeting dealt with various proposals for regulations promoting digitalisation and its use.

27.12.2024 | On Friday 27 December, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy received a briefing on the damage to cables in the Baltic Sea on Christmas Day. 

24.2.2025 | Finland has been active in responding to Ukraine’s need for assistance. Finland has delivered more than 100 vehicles to Ukraine through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The latest consignment of 16 vehicles was delivered during the first weeks of February. Finland has also delivered more than 400 truckloads of civilian material assistance to Ukraine through the EU mechanism.

6.6.2025 | Finland welcomes the EU international digital strategy, which was published as a joint communication of the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy on 5 June 2025.
