Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment

Press release

Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman will lead a Team Finland visit to Indonesia from 29 January to 1 February 2024. A business delegation of 22 people from 15 different companies and organisations will participate in the trip. Rydman’s programme includes several ministerial meetings. In addition, a letter of intent between the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the authority responsible for the relocation of the Indonesian capital will be signed during the visit.

New opportunities are available for Finnish companies, especially in the sustainable infrastructure, energy and digitalisation sectors in Indonesia. In particular, the Nusantara capital project, where the Indonesian government plans to move the capital (currently Jakarta on the island of Java) to the island of Borneo will offer considerable opportunities.

The visit will also speed up Finnish-Indonesian commercial cooperation in the energy sector within the framework of a previously signed letter of intent. Indonesia’s energy production is still largely based on fossil fuels. However, the country has ambitious plans concerning climate and energy, including a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

In terms of its economy and a population of close to 300 million people, Indonesia is the largest country in Southeast Asia. Finland’s exports of goods to Indonesia amounted to EUR 282 million in 2022. Our exports have been growing: e.g. at a rate of 22 per cent in 2022. Indonesia and the EU are negotiating a free trade agreement. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Finland.

Business Finland has selected the business delegation. Companies represented in the business delegation include: Abloy Oy, Business Tampere, Ecosir Group Oy, HAUS, Helvar, Iceye Oy, Kempower Oy, Liikennevirta Oy, MariElectronics Oy / MariMatic International Oy, Molok Oy, Nokia Solutions and Networks Singapore, Peikko Group Corporation, Smart City Innovation Cluster, Vaisala and Wärtsilä Corporation.
